Northern Lights
The Aurora Borealis which is also popularly-known as the Northern Lights can be seen from places which are close to the Poles. But since I'm in Norway I call it the Norway Lights. It is my first time to see such spectacular dancing lights from the skies when we sail from Hammerfest to the platform we are going to work to.
The Northern Lights can be seen only in the northern or southern hemisphere. ( From Wikipedia). Also I learned that this is the result of collisions between gaseous particles in the earth's atmosphere with charged particles released from sun's atmosphere. What we see in the picture is the greenish most common aurora color which I researched is produced by oxygen molecules.
Thanks be to the company for a free ride and free witnessing of the famous Northern lights. Many people are travelling to Northern parts of globe just to have a glimpse on this fancy lights.
The ship's name is Edda Freya- a brand new vessel just delivered last May 2016 owned by Ostensjo Rederi of Norway and presently chartered by Deepocean.
This is a multipurpose cable laying ship. The tower which is included in the picture with the Northern lights background is called the Vertical Lay System which is used to lay cable on the seabed by taking the cable inside the reel. The other towers you see are the giant cranes that assist the tower to do its job on the seabed.
