Bunkering at Haugesund

Before we departed Norway we had to re - fuel in Haugesund for  one-day voyage to Peterhead, Scotland. These big tanks are where fuel are stored as they fill up every ship that is going for bunkering operations.

This ships Normand Fortress and Normand Flipper are owned by Solstad Offshore. This was the company where I started to work with way back 2010 but with different vessel named Normand Installer- a multipurpose offshore construction vessel. The two ships in the picture are called supply vessels with big tanks inside for cement, brine and mud. They usually supply provision to the platform rigs and other Equipments needed by the offshore installations at the middle of the sea.

Overlooking ships another from Solstad (second from right) named Normand Oceanic. I had a lot of friends from Normand Installer- including one of the captain who transferred on that vessel last 2011 when it was still brand new. The three vessels nearby - on the right side is where I worked for about three years the great Edda Fides- an accommodation support vessel. It is owned by Ostensjo Rederi - a Haugesund based - company . That is the biggest vessel of the company before Edda Freya was built. Overlooking two others on the left side are also owned by the same company named Edda Fram and Edda Fonn- a supply and light construction vessel respectively.

Solstad Offshore's main office is located at Skudeneshavn situated on an island just close to Haugesund.

It's the VLS (Vertical Lay System) tower , and the two cranes of our ship Edda Freya. These machines are used to assist each other when cable laying operations . The VLS has a strength of 150 ton and capacity capacity of the cranes are 70T and 400T .

It's winter time .The ship's deck  is slowly filled with snow.
